I am joining the great orb debate. All over the internet you can find “proof” vs “debunking” – “believers” v “skeptics of are orbs real or optical illusions. I am not sure which camp I am in. Hence I am a fence sitter. Albeit with my feet dangling dangerously over the edge onto the “believers” side. Because come on that is way more fun than joining the debunking skeptics.
What could they be? Are they ghosts? Deceased loved ones? Spiritual allies? Angels? Aliens? Or merely dust particles? Pollen? Sun spots? Light fractions from a camera lens?
According to Wikipedia
Orbs are captured during low-light instances where the camera’s flash is used. Cases include night or underwater photography, or where a bright light source is near the camera.
The orb artifact can result from retroreflection of light off solid particles, such as dust or pollen, or liquid particles, especially rain. They can also be caused by foreign material within the camera lens.
According to other sources on the internet
They are also called “ghost orbs” or “spirit orbs”. Some say they are energy transmissions from otherworldly beings. Some say they are those otherworldly beings themselves (ghosts, angels, etc). They come in different shapes mostly round and in different colors. There are those who attribute those colors to have meanings. With some of the orbs you can see images inside of them. People say they have seen faces and even buildings. A bit like cloud gazing perhaps? This leads believers to ponder if they are some sort of an alternate reality time warp.
I am in Sevilla, Spain and I was taking pictures for Instagram’s Weekend Hashtag Project on Patterns. When I was reviewing my shots I found an orb. I was not aware of it while shooting. It appears to be moving from one area to the next. As you can see from the photos. All are in the same area and were taken within a 10 minute frame. I was holding the camera in the same position pointing it at the same area. I was attempting to capture the patterns: in the street pavement, the chairs lined up, the building and its windows, the shade and light, the people and their shadows. I was very interested in capturing the shadows of people as they crossed from the shade into the light, to show people and their shadows as a pattern. So I was attempting to keep my camera in the exact same spot and just wait for the people on the street to enter into that shot.
You be the judge. Orbs? Dust? Pollen? Sunspot? Ghosts from an ancient past? (Sevilla is built on ancient Roman ruins.) Whatever it is I find my orb beautiful. Notice how it moves from one spot to the next, how it change colors and how the patterns inside it change as well.
I present you with my entry into the great internet orb debate. Fun!
